The Decatur Police Department saw a significant increase in the number of calls for service it received in April.
According to a department report, calls in April totaled 1,560, an increase of 557 from March!
The two categories with the largest rise were traffic enforcement and building checks.
March calls totaled 1,003 while February’s numbers were 768.
For the year, the report said, the department has responded to a total of 4,136 calls for service, an average of 1,034 calls per month.
The calls include a mix of emergency and non-emergency responses, including, but not limited to, traffic stops, traffic-related criminal offenses, vehicle accidents, and a variety of other traffic related concerns, the report said.
The number also includes property crimes, crimes against a person(s), and long-term investigations as well as non-criminal issues such as, VIN (vehicle inspection number) checks, civil disputes, animal complaints, vehicle unlocks, and neighbor complaints.
TIME TO RENEW: As the weather continues to improve, the department said, people are reminded to renew their registration sticker.
Those who have registered their golf cart or UTV do not need to bring their vehicle again to register.
What is needed to renew is a five-digit registration number and valid proof of insurance.
Golf carts are $30 cash or check; no cards are being accepted at this time.
