The Decatur Elks Lodge 993 has announced in a Facebook posting that it is permanently closed.
No reason was given but Elks membership has been declining across the U.S. for years.
“A sad day has arrived,” the Facebook post said. “Our Elks Lodge is now permanently closed for business.”
The Decatur lodge, located a 327 N. Second St., was instituted in July 20, 1906.

It marked its 100th anniversary in 2006.
A final event was held Saturday night.
“The evening was coordinated by ER Dustin Drake and his wife, Kelly (Secretary),” the FB post said. “Pizza & pulled pork was available. Greg Conrad was the DJ. March Madness was on the tvs. Conversation and laughs were free flowing.”
The announcement said the local lodge is in the process of working toward a merger with Bluffton Elks Lodge 796, under guidance from the Grand Lodge.
