The empty gas station at Five Points in Decatur has been demolished as the latest steps taken to bring a roundabout to the intersection next year.
The work being done by Fleming Excavating is expected to be cleaned up by Thursday.
SCS Environmental Services, Fort Wayne, is scheduled to remove the station’s underground tanks on January 13.

E&B Paving of Muncie has the contract for the installation of the roundabout after offering the low bid of $2,493,109.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is in charge of the project which uses, in the main, federal monies. It received three bids for the project.
Federal funding will cover 80% of the total cost. Decatur’s 20% match will amount to $498,621.80 – which is less than the amount the city budgeted for its share.
The roundabout will be the first one in Decatur and Adams County.
