What Decatur Main Street is calling an important Community Input Meeting will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, beginning at 7 p.m. at Riverside Center.
“… we need your thoughts,” the volunteer group said in a public statement. “Whether you’re a long-time resident or a new face in town, your feedback is important as we plan for the future of our downtown.”
Downtown businessman Max Miller, president of the organization’s board of directors, recently talked with Decatur City Council, noting at one point: “Main Street’s goal is to make downtown the heart of the city.”
He said the agenda for the input meeting includes Renea Salyer, Decatur Main Street’s NE Indiana Community Liason, She will be talking about the local group’s application to become an Accredited Indiana Main Streeet.
Also, Mayor Dan Rickord will provide updates on planned and proposed ideas for the downtown area, “and we will go over the recent downtown survey,” Miller said.
Then groups will be formed to further discuss and present ideas for 2025 and beyond, he added.

The survey asks the following:
How do you perceive the current image of downtown Decatur?
- What is your idea of a vibrant downtown?
- What is your ideal vision for making downtown Decatur thrive?
- How can we engage more with the local community to promote downtown businesses?
- What positive events, developments, or initiatives have you noticed downtown that benefit the community?
5.What types of events or activities would you like to see in downtown Decatur?
- Are there any past events or initiatives in downtown that you found valuable but are no longer happening?
- How can we improve our communication about events with you?

MEMBERS: Board members include Miller, Linda Morris, and Nick Rumschlag, plus new additions Abby Bird, Kelly Roby, Kim Trombley and Karie Vrablic.
Outgoing members are Wanda Miller, Wylie Sirk and Kathy Thorpe.
