Decatur City Council has approved the expenditure of $18,103 to provide heat to a building at the city’s wastewater treatment plant on Monmouth Road.
Josh Zimmerman, the city’s infrastructure manager, asked that the payment be taken from federal ARPA (American Rescue Plant Act) funds, with council agreeing.

The building is mostly unused, Zimmerman said, and he explained that by heating the building it can be used to house various equipment.
Zimmerman told council he has done much of the work to install heat, but he is running out of time to get the effort completed before cold weather sets in. Thus, the funding request.
PAYING IN: Council passed an ordinance which will set up a collection method for donations.
It was noted that large corporations such as Walmart are now making donations through online payment systems such as PayPal. In order to receive such donations, there must be a way to take them in.
“This (what the ordinance does) is more of a collection site than anything,” City Attorney Anne Razo noted.
