Mariano C. Atienzo, 90, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Durango, Mexico on April 17, 1934, to the late Jesus and Maria (Carillo) Atienzo. On January 18, 1956, he married Cristina Velasquez and she preceded him in death on July 20, 2017.

He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and worked at Decatur Casting for over 20 years before retiring.
Mariano is survived by a son, Mariano V. Atienzo, Jr. of Decatur; 2 daughters, Sildain (Ulises Ayala) Atienzo of Decatur and Sonia (Jennifer) Atienzo-Fisher of Hoagland; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by 2 sons and 2 daughters, Luciana Atienzo, Jose Luis Atienzo, Cecilia Ochoa, and Manuel Atienzo.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Haggard – Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation 1 hour prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be presiding and burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
