No more rugged, milled streets. No more having to avoid a street being paved.
The latest major street-paving project in Decatur was completed mid-week, a bit later than expected due to some unexpected rain. But it has brought some smooth streets with bright markings to the city.
Work on resurfacing and striping the Riverside Center parking lot was the last major step.

The work began Sept. 17 and the city-owned parking lot behind Two Brothers was redone that first day.
“Two large projects are finishing up and it’s good,” Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council earlier in the week, apparently referring to the Winchester/13th streets redevelopment commission pedestrian upgrade/signal project .
Brooks Construction of Fort Wayne did the resurfacing work, the majority of which was funded by a state Community Crossings grant
The grant amounted to $810,508.10 and the city provided a match of some $253,300 (which was budgeted), boosting total funds available for the work to over $1 million: $1,013,135.12.
And the city is preparing its application for another CC grant for next year.
