As required by the State Board of Accounts, the City of Decatur has written off utility accounts considered non-collectable.
The delinquent accounts total $9,981.18 involving 49 customers, and that number is down quite a bit from recent years.

Utilities Director Erin Heyerly told the city’s board of works and safety that $15,179.16 was written off a year ago, and that nearly $21,000 was lost two years back.
She also noted that one of the non-collectables had to be included although the person involved has vowed to pay his bill.
Heyerly did, however, express some concern about what 2025 may bring since that is five years out from the pandemic year.
The state board requires municipalities to write off accounts not collected after five years.
GRID DEAL: The board also approved the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Decatur Football League (DFL) to use the field at the Merit Center.
The MOU states that the daycare center at the Merit has the first use of the field until 6 p.m.
