Not long after the Madison Street Plaza in Decatur is quieting down from Thursday’s Fleetwood Mac music, music of an entirely different nature will be taking over – at Dekatur Germanfest 2024.
The Decatur Chamber’s sixth annual event is scheduled from 5 to 10 p .m. Saturday, with the traditional keg tapping set for 6.
No admission will be charged for the family-friendly event.
As usual, entertainment will be provided by the Klaberheads out of Cincinnati.
Also as usual, traditional German fare will be available: Bratwurst, sauerkraut, hot German potato salad, hot Bavarian pretzels, homemade German desserts and hot dogs.
German and domestic beers will be available. There will be a $5 charge to enter the biergarten.
Alpine and hats will be available and traditional German dress is encouraged, lederhosen for men, dirndls for women – and that garb will provide free admission to the biergarten.
Stein-holding contests will be held for both women and men.
