The Decatur Chamber’s 2024 Summer Concert Series returns to hard rock this week as the annual series moves into the third and final month of its schedule.
Thunderstruck, a tribute band playing the music of AC/DC, returns to the Madison St. Plaza stage Thursday in the first of five August concerts which will bring the ’24 series to a wrapup.
Thunderstruck, which played the Clyde Theatre in Fort Wayne on July 13, will perform here from 7-9 p.m.
No admission is charged, food will be available, as will adult beverages sold by the Mirage’s Oasis Pub.
Paul Morgan, a 17-year-old junior at Bellmont High School, will open for Thunderstruck, performing at 6:45 p.m.
Thunderstruck’s website says it “truly captures the high voltage energy” of AC/DC, and that’s certainly proven true in the band’s appearances in Decatur in each of the past three years.
Bobby Lee Stamper’s vocals mimic those of Bon Scott and Brian Johnson while Kyle LePato replicates Angus Young, even down to the schoolboy outfit.
Kevin Feller on rhythm guitar, Corey Baetz on drums, and Chris Jones on bass round out the five-man band.
It is a band on the move. They will leave Decatur and head for Algona, Iowa, and a performance on Friday, then motor to New Berlin, Illinois, for a Saturday show.
