A pair of ordinances before Decatur City council at its recent meeting were passed on two of three required readings, then tabled until the Sept. 3 meeting.
Passage of both ordinances is expected.
One reduced from 30 to 25 mph the speed limit on Fairway Drive and Fairway Court in the Cross Creek subdivision.
The other deals with code enforcement in the city, primarily of weeds and excessive vegetation.
The new ordinance, offered up by Building/Zoning Superintendent Curt Witte, whose department oversees code enforcement, will provide for more efficient, faster enforcement of violations.
Meanwhile, Witte said his department is still working on a resolution to a problem at a home at 1315 Mix Ave.
Fernando and Savannah Eguia are the deeded property owners, but Witte he believes the structure is empty since the water has been shut off.
Originally, one of the problems was overgrown weeds and vegetation. However, after several notices to abate, the yard was finally cleaned up.
The remaining problem is with a garage door which remains partially open. The door has been damaged, is out of alignment with the door opening and seems to be off track. It is also possible that a cable is broken.

The open door is an invitation for animals to seek shelter and there is some concern with someone being injured if the door should suddenly fall, said Brad Roe, the department’s assistant superintendent.
“Neighbors shouldn’t have to deal with this,” Mayor Dan Rickord said.
As of Wednesday, July 24, the door remained open.
