The Adams County Community foundation and the Don Wood Foundation have partnered up to update the ACCF 8th grade Literacy Scholarship application and awards.
Previously, the ACCF Literacy Scholarship awarded books and magazines to students. This scholarship has been updated to allow students being given the opportunity to win a premier Lit-STEM award with distinction for first place, second place and third place. The premier Lit-STEM award is a programmable robot with an estimated value of $100.
First-place recipients earned up to $60 while other award amounts were: $35 for second and $25 for third place. The ACCF recently awarded 248 Adams County students with these awards. Though the reading and STEM materials were the tangible awards, students also gained experience and knowledge in project based learning.
Second-place winners were: Oliver Thomas, Barker, Jacob David Binegar, Ashley Pauline Bleke, Brody M. Bohnke, Brayden James Butcher, Unique Star Hess, Olivia Grace Lengerich, Frank Chritopher Morgan, Gabriel Jeffery Myers, Daniel Alexander Norman, Grace Katherine Ruble, Jack Frederick Schultz, Ella Catherine Schumm and Daniel Leo Selking.
Third-place winners were: Joel M. Albertson, Braylon Gerald Burelison, Alexis Nicole Reed, Luke Edward Ruble and Luke Robert Summers.
Coni Mayer, ACCF director, noted 25 St. Joseph School students participated in this life skills project that will give them a step forward in the scholarship process. Colleges and community scholarships are exceptionally generous and it is not too soon for students to begin thinking about this process.
