With the Fourth of July quickly approaching, city residents are advised that discharging consumer fireworks within the city limits is prohibited with a few exceptions.

The use of fireworks are allowed on the following dates and times;
* Between the hours of 5 p.m. and two hours after sunset on June 29, June 30, July 1, July 2, July 3, July 5, July 6, July 7, July 8, and July 9.
* Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 midnight on the Fourth of July.
Fireworks also may be used between the hours of 10 a.m. on December 31 and 1 a.m. on January 1.
The Decatur Fire Department and city officials stress that the use of all fireworks and the residue from that use must be contained on the property of the using property owner.
