PRESS RELEASE
The ACCF recently awarded a grant to Zion Lutheran School for a field trip to the Ft. Wayne Zoo. The rain didn’t hinder their enthusiasm as the children strolled from exhibit to display. The Carl Risch Shepherd Fund grant helped to offset the cost per student.
Carl Risch reported that he was proud this fund was established as a tribute to his 40 years of service to Zion Lutheran Church and School. As reported by fund representatives Sarah Conrad and Nathaniel Frey, this fund is a fitting honor to Carl for his dedication. Starting in 1984, Carl Risch began working with Zion Lutheran Church and School as a teacher, and moved to administrative roles, agreeably filling in where needed to best serve the school and students. In addition, Carl continues to serve the church as the Minister of Music. He has served the congregation, parents, children, staff, and community in a variety of impressive positions.
Carl dedicated 38 years as Zion’s 3rd and 4th grade teacher. Watching his students grow and mature, he can proudly report that he has taught multiple generations of students.
In addition, for years, Carl has served the community as a Bellmont and Zion track, basketball, and cross country coach. For four decades, it has been common to see Carl running along the road most any time of day or any day of the week. It is safe to report that he has mentored and trained countless runners to enjoy this life-long therapy of running.
It was the desire of Zion Lutheran School Board of Education to set up a fund in the Adams County Community Foundation to honor Carl’s legacy. The Carl Risch Fund will continue to serve the needs of Zion Lutheran students, staff, and school.
