Local baseball teams are wrapping up their baseball regular seasons this weekend with an eye on mid-week sectional games. It goes without saying that the goal for all four teams in Z-Land is to make it to Memorial Day and the IHSAA sectional championship games. Fans of high school baseball can listen to every postseason game for Heritage, South Adams, Adams Central and Bellmont on 92.7 FM or on our YouTube channel when there are two (or more) games going at once.
Heritage 7 FW Canterbury 2
The Patriots actually still have two games left in their regular season after beating Canterbury Friday. They will host Wayne Saturday before finally getting their ACAC game at South Adams on Monday.
A couple of three-run innings in the fifth and the sixth innings pushed Heritage to the victory.
Andrew Mirelez took a break from his day job at third base to throw the first two innings and he struck out four in two innings of work before turning it over to Thomson Keppel, who recorded eight outs and seven of them by strikeout. Keppel did allow the only two Canterbury runs.
Caleb Abbott and Beau Stoppenhagen also pitched an inning each for the Patriots late in the game.
Brady Richman had two RBI for the Patriots, who are now 17-3 on the season.
Adams Central 9 Blackhawk Christian 6
Adams Central built an 8-2 lead and won on the road 9-6.
Jack Hamilton and Ethan Funk each had three hits, with Funk driving in three runs and Hamilton having the only extra-base hit with a double.
The Jets had to overcome ten walks issued by three pitchers. Ryan Tester was credited with the save with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
The Jets have scheduled a game against Eastside for Monday with their sectional opener set for Wednesday against Bishop Luers.
