In their November meeting, Adams County Council officials approved additional funding for the Adams County Highway Department (shown from Google Earth view) for use in repairing their roof.
Brad Yoder, highway superintendent, approached the council following his meeting with the commissioners in early October, explaining that the roof of the mechanic garage and office area of the highway department, located on Polk Street in Monroe, was in dire need of repairs. Initially, there were holes in the roof of the mechanic area that have since been patched to last through the winter, but Yoder’s appeal to the November council meeting was to secure funding for a more permanent roof for both areas of the department building.
An additional appropriation was established for the Adams County Highway Department for $150,000, in which Yoder will seek bids for completing the project within budget and specifications to fix the roofs come Spring of 2024.

The highway department building was built in 1959, and since then the roof has only been routinely patched. The method of replacing the mechanics roof will be to lay down insulation boards over the existing roof and then apply a special rubber coat, one that Yoder said offers a 40-year guarantee. The office section of the department was built in 1990, and will receive a metal roof to replace the current shingle one.
County council members agreed with Yoder that they needed to do something about a replacement roof, and approved the additional appropriations for the highway department.
