After the success of last year’s event, Bellmont head wrestling coach Tim Myers is ready to bring the Bellmont Wrestling nation back to Madison Street Plaza Thursday afternoon as the team will host its intrasquad competition, commonly known in wrestling lingo as “wrestle-offs”, to a very public setting.
The event is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. and will be held on the Madison Street Plaza. Several challenge matches and exhibitions will take place at the start of the event before the combatants for the final round are determined. Those taking part in the final wrestle-offs have been divided into two teams – crimson and navy.

The Braves are set to begin their season with a Friday dual at Wawasee on November 17th. That dual is scheduled for a live WZBD broadcast (like all Bellmont duals this season), however, a win by Adams Central football this Friday would push that broadcast to the station’s YouTube channel. Either way, Bellmont fans will know who is in the 14-man lineup after Thursday’s event.

The Braves have been tagged as the #5 team in 2A in the pre-season rankings released by IndianaMat and will have their sights set on a schedule prior to the January Team State that features as many fellow Team State competitors as coach Myers could find.

One of the most contested weights in the Bellmont wrestling room right now is at 190. The graduation of Henry Kukelhan has opened up a spot in the lineup that is set to be filled by one of four wrestlers. Seniors Cole Mendez and Aiden Miller will square off early Thursday, with the winner advancing to take on the winner of the other “semifinal”: either senior Devin Gephart or junior Ryne Fawbush.

The Braves do not quite have the numbers at the lower weights that they might wish, as out of the nine lowest weights, seven of them will be forfeits on Thursday. There, will, however be plenty of good wrestling in the upper weights and Myers has set up exhibition matches between the varsity boys and their neighbors in the weight class above or below them.

Myers also noted that the team will have information on apparel for this season and schedule posters available for families and fans of the team. Fans should note that the team has set a goal to have apparel on hand for the home opener against Bishop Dwenger on November 30th, causing the deadline for apparel to be ordered to be November 12th.
