The annexation of the fourth – and last – section of land in the Meadows of Cross Creek subdivision moved to one formal step from finality at Tuesday night’s meeting of Decatur City Council.
No voices in opposition were heard at a public hearing, paving the way for what is a super annexation, meaning it was requested by the land owner.
Several years ago, the Indiana General Assembly changed annexation laws to make it much more difficult for a city to annex land without the consent of the landowner(s). This was not the case with the Meadows.
Steve Kreigh (photo), representing the Meadows of Cross Creek shareholders, was on hand for the meeting.
A fiscal plan prepared by City Attorney Anne Razo was accepted. It was determined that the city’s infrastructure could handle the new homes the annexation will bring.

A total of 24.4 acres of land is involved, an area which sits at the northwest end of the subdivision.
Decatur Mayor Dan Rickord noted that he recently attended a mayors’ conference and it was obvious there “that housing (lack of) is still a big thing in Indiana.”
Earlier this past summer, the city approved the requested annexation of an area of the Lake Shores subdivision on the east side of the city. The area annexed there involved 24.219 acres to the south of the subdivision.
