Decatur’s Board of Works and Safety recently took another step in solidifying its inter-local agreement with Adams County in the move toward a countywide transportation service.
At its latest meeting, the board gave its approval to have Miller Land Surveying survey a small piece of land near the MERIT Center, which formerly was the Northwest School.

Moving toward the establishment of a countywide transportation service, the city and county recently approved an inter-local agreement between the two which establishes certain criteria for the new service.
As part of that agreement, the city sold .7 of an acre of land in the northwest corner of the MERIT Center lot to the county for $200,000. It is that land which Miller will survey and which will eventually become the site of construction of a garage to hold the council on aging’s fleet of vehicles.

Also at the latest board of works and the city council meetings:
* Firefighter Nick Patton was removed from probationary status and becomes a First Class Firefighter. “He’s been with us for a little over a year now and has worked out well,” Chief Jeff Sheets said.
* The painting of a large mural on the wall of a downtown building received the board’s approval.
Betsey’s Boutique Shop is moving into the former Bear’s Den on N. Second St. downtown and will have its name on a mural on the side of the building which faces north and overlooks a parking lot.
* An ordinance to establish a handicap parking place at 353 S. Third St., on the west side, received approval on two readings, with the third and reading set for the next council meeting, Sept. 5.
