The Adams County Commissioners have approved lowering the speed limit along one stretch of road near Geneva. They did not lower the speed limit on all Adams County roads, because they can’t.
County Attorney Mark Burry told WZBD that state law forbids the Commissioners from doing a blanket speed limit reduction. Burry said that there has been some confusion over the law, but the Commissioners can only lower the speed limit near incorporated or congested areas…
The Commissioners say they had received numerous calls about the move from people who thought they were lowering the speed limit on rural roads county-wide, and that is simply not the case.
The only road affected by the change is along County Road 950 South, East of US 27 near Geneva. The new speed limit will take effect once the signs are posted in that area.
