Former Decatur police officer and Adams Central graduate Austin Gross has been named Lead Student Resource Officer (SRO) for the Batesville Community School Corporation.
He was sworn in by Batesville Police Chief Stan Holt (photo).
Gross is a member of the Greensburg Police Department, serving some five years. He previously had been a member of the Adams County Sheriff”s Department, then joined the Decatur Police Department in December of 2016, leaving a few years later to move to the Greensburg.
He has worked with juveniles at a correctional facility in Muncie. “That was how I shifted into wanting to work in the schools,” Gross told the Daily News, an online newspaper that covers a four-county area which includes Greensburg and Batesville.

“I just really enjoy working with kids. Part of my job on the GPD is that I am in charge of all of our training for the department and I’m also in charge of any new officer that we get.”
Austin is the son of Chris and April Gross and the grandson of Joan Gross of Decatur. He and his wife, Nicole, are the parents of two children. Nicole is a sixth-grade special education teacher for Batesville schools.
