
The Berne City Council met on Monday night, where during the course of the meeting the Council approved the Comprehensive Plan for the city. The plan has been in the making for the last two years. This is the first Comprehensive Plan that has been adopted by the Berne City Council since the 1960’s. The 150 page document will be available for viewing at the Berne City Hall, and will eventually be placed on the city’s website.
Also at the meeting, the Council introduced new salary ordinances for city employees and the city’s elected officials for 2024. Pay raises for next year will be the same for everyone at 3.25%, plus a $500 stipend. The ordinances are expected to be adopted at the Council’s next meeting.
The Council approved spending $18,000 from the City’s Rainy Day Fund to help pay for a new sanitation truck. Finally, Mayor Gregg Sprunger announced that two new Dodge Durangos have arrived for the Berne Police Department. The police cars that are being replaced will be sold once the new cars are put in operation.
