Decatur Mayor Dan Rickord said Friday that the city’s capital campaign to fund the Kekionga Project has reached its goal of $50,000.

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA)’s CreatINg Places program (also known as Patronicity), will now match that sum, providing a minimum of $100,000 for the three-pronged project.

The two-month campaign had a deadline of Saturday in order to earn the matching money.
Donations came from businesses, individuals and even the players who use the ball diamond which will be improved.

The Kekionga Project has three facets: a) Completing a dog park already started at the former site of the Evergreen Assisted Living facility; b) renovating the old ball diamond in Kekionga Park, north of the dog park site; and c) stocking the pond beside the dog park, a popular fishing spot in the city.
The dog park will be the city’s first.
