There is never anything positive about layoffs, but Decatur’s strong economy should help absorb the employee reductions announced Thursday at Fleetwood RV here.
The company said in a phone call with WZBD that it “had to take the difficult action and process of letting some of our team go at our Fleetwood RV, Holiday Rambler and American Coach manufacturing facility.”
“We all know manufacturing is cyclical and nationwide there was a dip in the last quarter,” Decatur Mayor Dan Rickord said.

“We currently have other employers hiring, so, hopefully, everyone can find work. And when Fleetwood enters their 75th year next year, we hope they come back stronger than ever.” Fleetwood RV, reportedly Adams County’s second largest employer, did not reveal the number of workers being let go.
Fleetwood RV and American Coach joined Rev Group Inc. in 2008, then Holiday Rambler joined Rev Group in 2013.
The Country Butcher is currently preparing its state-of-the art beef processing plant in Decatur’s Industrial Park 1. With an anticipated fall start date, the company is expected to hire 100 or more employees.
Champion Homes has taken over the onetime All American Homes site on S. 13th St. and has some 100 people currently working there. In time, as it reaches full production, the plant will have some 232 employees, with an average wage of $52,520 per year, Plant Manager Adam Oszakiewski recently told city council.
