Decatur’s water tower on Line St. should be filled and back in business by the end of this week, Utilities Director Kevin Hackman told city council at its latest meeting.
The tower, with a capacity of 500,000 gallons of water, had been drained for a new paint job.
LC United Painting of Sterling Heights, Michigan, handled the project at a cost of $248,000.
Last year, the same firm painted the east water tower, at Piqua Road and E. Monroe St. That was the one which got the Bellmont Braves logo.

Attention now turns to the city’s third water tower, at Waterworks Park, by the swimming pool. If funding is available, it could be redone next year.
Also at the council meeting:
* Mayor Dan Rickord thanked the police department for its back-to-school clothing drive. “Thank Amy (McDonald Gage, the department’s chief clerk), she has a giant heart,” Chief Kevin Gerber said.
* After a public hearing, council approved an ordinance repealing and replacing the 2015 ordinance dealing with stormwater regulations. The minor changes were required by the state.
* After another public hearing, council approved a resolution for an additional appropriation from ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds to be used for the wastewater treatment plant’s outfall sewer replacement project.
That was the project for which the city received a bid of just under $200,000, but further study by Hackman determined that city employees could and would perform the task.
* Councilman Wylie Sirk congratulated Two Brothers Restaurant and Bar on its 75th anniversary.
