Within the next few weeks, a decision could be made regarding the future of the Golden Meadows County Home in Adams County. The home has been in operation since 1901, but has seen a steady decline in numbers in recent years, and now a decline in personnel to oversee the residents. Because of that, the County Commissioners and the County Council will begin evaluating the home and will decide on the future of the facility in the coming few weeks.

WZBD’s Ed Thurman spoke with Commissioners President Stan Stoppenhagen about the issue…
Just recently, the Commissioners sold off most of the farmland that had been part of Golden Meadows for over a century. But the recent resignations of the home’s administrator and several staff members has left the home in dire need of help. Adams Memorial Hospital has been aiding the county in overseeing the needs of the 20 remaining residents at the home. The facility has 80 rooms for its occupants, but only a quarter of them are being used.
The Commissioners will meet with the County Council next week to begin the discussion regarding the future of Golden Meadows.
The situation facing Adams County regarding the county home is nothing new. At one time, nearly all 92 counties had county homes. Now, there are just 8 that remain open.
