The drive to fund the Kekionga Project in Decatur is now a little less than $20,000 shy of its goal … but the August 5 deadline is fast approaching, less than two weeks away.

If the $50,000 goal can be reached by that date, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA)’s CreatINg Places program (also known as Patronicity), will match the $50,000.
An event this Saturday will benefit the project.

The Mirage Banquet Hall on S. Winchester St. Extended will host Dan Heath and the Iconics for a concert.
Admission will be $10 at the door, which includes a drink ticket. All proceeds will be turned over to the Kekionga Project.
The doors will open at 6 p.m., with the concert scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m.
Food will be available for purchase.
Heath and the Iconics, out of Fort Wayne, say they play the top tunes of country and rock.
Heath is the former Allen County judge and administrator of the Allen County Juvenile Center, having retired in early 2018, He also managed the campaign of former Fort Wayne Mayor Paul Helmke, then served as chief of staff and also safety director for the Helmke administration.
Heath, who plays guitar and handles vocals for the Iconics band, said at the time of his retirement that he wanted to focus on family and some things he likes to do. “It’s time for family, a little golf, and little music,” he said at the time.
