PRESS RELEASE
The Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) is pleased to announce that North Adams Arts Council was recently awarded a grant for the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, which was held recently at the Riverside Center, with the room flamboyantly decorated based on the book Alice in Wonderland.
Attendees can dress in costume for a “Fancy Tea Party”. In addition to the Tea party, attendees are provided a hat to decorate. Attendees were encouraged to wear their hat to the Unveiling Day of the Decatur Sculpture Tour (DST).

Susan Roe, president of the North Adams Arts Council (NAAC), has expressed her appreciation to the ACCF for this support, which has assisted in paying for the needed supplies for the Mad Hatter Tea party. Audra Snyder, ACCF Board member and grants committee member, remarked that the ACCF is proud to show support for this family-friendly grant request that encourages family time with friends and families.
This ACCF grant was made possible through the unrestricted fund sponsored by the Charlie & Jean (Porter) Brune and Victor & Kristine Porter Community Enrichment Funds.
The Charlie & Jean (Porter) Brune Community Enrichment Fund was established by the Charlie and Jean (Porter) Brune Family, who have dedicated a major portion of their lives to youth and community service. Associated with the Formula Thunderbird Products, Complete Printing, and Old Highway 27 Ice Cream Shop located on 2nd street, the Brunes have invested well into our community.
Victor and Kristine (Striker) Porter were born in Adams County, graduated from Decatur High School and married in 1950. They were involved in businesses employing hundreds of local people ever since, along with raising their six children, supporting church endeavors and contributing to the success of local projects.
Through the years, Vic held leadership roles in five local businesses and was a chairman of Thunderbird Formula, a powerboat company with worldwide distribution. Stemming from his hometown interest and philanthropic efforts, the Woodcrest Retirement Community was established. Recognizing both his generosity and business causes, Vic received the Indiana Spirit of Entrepreneurship Award in 1990 and the Stephen Decatur Award in 1996. Kris continues to personify the adage: ‘Behind every great man is a really great woman.’
