An admittedly neglected area of downtown Decatur is now in line for some sprucing up.
The city’s board of works and safety recently approved an expenditure of $69,828 for 12 decorative street lights which will be placed on the one block of Second St., from Monroe St. to Jackson St.

ESL/Spectrum, which has erected decorative lighting in other downtown areas, received the contract.
Pavers and new sidewalks are scheduled for the block which, Mayor Dan Rickord, said, “has been neglected for a few years.”
The effort is phase 4 of a 4-phase project the city initiated a number of years ago, according to Street/Sanitation Superintendent Matt Schultz.
Second St. from Monroe St. south has had decorative lights, new sidewalks, etc. for several years. As have several blocks of Monroe St.
