An old Decatur building that is literally falling in has not only seen its better days but is now facing its final days.
At its latest meeting, the city’s board of works and safety authorized the demolition of the former Masters Heating, Cooling and Electrical building at 116 N. First St.
Street/Sanitation Superintendent Matt Schultz and Wastewater Superintendent Karey Fuelling brought quotes from three companies to the board.

A quote of $63,000 from Luginbill Excavating, a Monroe-area company, was by far the lowest of the three. So, following some discussion, it was awarded the contract.
The building, once the site of Ashbaucher’s Tin Shop, has been in deteriorating condition for some time.
“It’s in bad shape. There’s a hole in the roof; it leaks,” Fuelling told the board.
The city purchased the building a number of years ago, after the Masters firm moved to an 11th St. location, and has been using it for storage.
“I think it needs to go,” board member Craig Coshow said prior to moving to accept the Luginbill quote.
