A trio of Adams County students and nine from Wells County are among 310 statewide recipients of Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarships.
Each will receive competitive $40,000 teaching scholarships, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education announced this week.
Bellmont students Brianna Converset and Gracie York are among the recipients, along with Adams Central’s Taylor Brown.
Five Norwell students – Kale Fuess, Elijah Jacob, Emmaline Johnson, Emerson Meredith and Cristin Springer – were selected.
Also chosen were Baylee Green and Sebstien Schoeff of Bluffton High School, Caroline Ripperger and Emily Steffen of Southern Wells.
Addison Werts of Heritage High School also was named.
Those chosen will receive up to $10,000 annually toward college for four years, according to a news release.
Recipients must teach for five years at an eligible Indiana school or repay the corresponding, prorated amount of the scholarship.
While in college/university, they must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and complete at least 30 credit hours per year to renew the scholarship.
The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship program is in its 10th year, administered by the commission for higher education.
In order to qualify, students had to meet at least one of the three academic requirements, which were based on high school graduation rankings, cumulative GPA and college-entrance exam scores, the release said.
Nearly 1,000 students, most of them seniors, from 323 high schools in 90 of Indiana’s 92 counties applied.
Some 30% of applicants are college students.
