Problems continue at Decatur’s city swimming pool, the latest being a motor failure which has closed the pool for what is expected to be two or three days.
Parks Superintendent Cara Gerber said at noon Monday that repairs are expected to be made in a couple of days or so and the pool should reopen yet this week, perhaps by Wednesday or Thursday.
After some work, it was determined that there was an issue with the pump or the motor to the pump. Parks employees took the motor off and found the pump was working but the motor was not working correctly.

“The motor was taken to Parrish Electric where they are working quickly to get it fixed.” a Facebook posting from the parks department said.
“They determined the windings were burnt up in the motor so parts have been ordered and the hope is to have it all together again in a few days.”
Daily posts will reveal when the pool might reopen again.

“Thank you to the community members who have supported us and kept positive through this season. We greatly appreciate YOU!” the parks department statement closed.
The pool only recently reopened after being shut down by some major leakage.
It was discovered in mid-June that the 100-year-old pool was losing 12 inches of water in a 24-hour period. After several leakage areas were plugged, the pool was down to a loss of 2 inches of water each 24 hours – and was reopened.
““It is checked daily and has been holding water for two weeks now. We are hopeful that the good news continues,” Krull, director of sports and facilities for parks department, told city council at its meeting on July 7.
