Roberto M. Rangel, 80, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026. He was born on October 7, 1945, in Edcouch, Texas, to José and Francisca Martinez Rangel.
Roberto married Irma Olivia Serna on May 31, 1969, and together they built a life and family in Decatur, where he became a longtime and beloved member of the community.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Roberto retired in 2010 after a remarkable 40+year career with Jim & Tom Kelly Automotive Group in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he took great pride in his work as a mechanic, including a memorable turn as a nationwide Mr. Goodwrench spokesperson. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur.
Roberto had a deep love for the game of golf, finding joy and peace on the course in a way that those who knew him will always remember. He was fond of reading and listening to poetry.
He is survived by his wife, Irma Rangel of Decatur, Indiana; two sons, Ricardo “Rick” Rangel of Wilsonville, Oregon, and Ryan R. Rangel of Decatur, Indiana; one daughter, Mrs. Mark (Rachel) Bienz of Overland Park, Kansas; and six cherished grandchildren, Branden, Owen, Aiden, & Ethan Bienz, Sienna & Sofia Rangel.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rolando “Roli” Rangel, and his sister, Estella R. Alvarez, both of whom he now rejoins in eternal rest.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur, on Friday, May 29, 2026. Visitation will take place in St. Mary’s Parish Hall, prior to the Mass from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Father Jacob Runyon will be presiding and burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Decatur.
Memorials may be made to Tri Kappa Sorority of Decatur.
