William S. “Bill” Johnson, 91, of Decatur, IN, passed away Friday morning, July 18, 2025 at Assisted Living of Adams Woodcrest. Bill was born on November 23, 1933 in Plymouth, IN to the late Lawrence S. and Wilma L. (Blackford) Johnson. On May 1, 1953, Bill married Sally L. Welker.

Bill was a member of St. Mark’s Church, where he served on many boards, and attended the Builder’s Sunday School Class. He was a 50-year member of the Decatur Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. #571 and the Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Floral Chapter Huntington and served as a Past Worthy Patron of the Decatur Chapter.
He retired in 1996 with 30 years of service with Aramark Services. He also drove for Adams Memorial Hospital for 11 years and drove for Custom Car Care. He also was a firefighter with the Huntington Fire Department. He was an avid Indiana Hoosiers and Chicago Cubs fan.
Bill is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sally L. Johnson of Decatur; 2 sons, Ricke (Ann) Johnson of Decatur and Jeffrey (Sandy) Johnson of Decatur; a daughter, Judy (Jeffrey) Vincent of Decatur; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his only sister, Wanda M. Karns.
Visitation will be from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a Masonic Service at 3:30 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a hour of visitation prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Pastor David Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery.
