Nearly 73 years of experience is exiting the Decatur Parks & Recreation Dept. as two resignations take effect with the advent of the new year.
Sue Milholland and Mary Friedt were honored by Decatur City Council at its Dec. 17 meeting as they wrapped up long and meritorious service to the community.

Milholland has been with the department for nearly 40 years and Friedt for 33. That’s 73 years!
“You won’t find two employees more dedicated to our community then these two. I appreciate all you have done,” Mayor Dan Rickord said.
“It tough to lose both of them,” he added.
Milholland, director of maintenance for park & rec, joined the department as part-time help in March of 1985, then became full time in April of 1988.
Friedt, youth sports coordinator, also began on a part-time basis, in June of 1989, then went full-time in August of 2000. She also has been long associated with the Bellmont High School wrestling program and is a long-time member of the Callithumpian Committee.
Resolutions praising the work ethic and the dedication of each were read by City Attorney Anne Razo, after which each woman received a standing ovation from all those in the council chambers.
“You have truly made Decatur a better place,” the mayor told them.
