A new event, a Gingerbread Family Festival, will be held in Decatur later this month as part of the annual Christmas tree lighting downtown.
The tree lighting is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Local and area residents are being urged to make a gingerbread house (house-making kits are available in stores), then submit it at the downtown HIVE.

The gingerbread houses will go on display from 3 to 8 p.m. at the HIVE on the day of the tree lighting and will be judged.
Prizes of $50, $30 and $20 in Decatur Dollars will go to the top three selections.
The prizes will be awarded to the most creative, best design and best theme.
People making gingerbread houses may drop them off at the HIVE from 4-7 p.m. on Nov. 19, 20 and 21.
Those with questions may call the HIVE, (260) 301-3014, from 4-7 p.m.
