Decatur’s 2024 Summer Concert Series has a unique, first-time addition: square dancing!
The new 13-week series on the Madison St. Plaza has been announced by the Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the concerts and lines up sponsors for it.
Each concert will be held on a Thursday, including Crush, a Bon Jovi concert experience, on July 4.
July 18 will see Bill Werling and the Breakaway Band, a group which performs throughout this area, bring square dancing to the plaza from 6 to 9 p.m.
The first show in the series is scheduled for Thursday, June 6, Duke Tomato kicking off the season.
Tomato is one of several long-time favorites on the schedule. Hubie Ashcraft will follow Tomato on June 13, with The Bulldogs set for August 8 and the Sweetwater All-Star Band on tap August 22.
Several tribute bands are scheduled, including the return of E5C4P3, which plays the music of Journey.
Others include The Broken Hearts (Tom Petty), Crush (Bon Jovi), and Fleetwood Gold (Fleetwood Mac).
SPONSORS NEEDED: Chamber officials said sponsors are still needed for this year’s concerts.
Several of the concerts are already covered, but more sponsors are being sought.
Among this year’s sponsors are Adams Memorial Hospital, Custom Car Care (twice), Tri-Kappa, Mark Bulmahn, Masonic Lodge, ProFed Credit Union, Fleming Properties/Excavating, and First Bank of Berne.
YOUTH SOUGHT: The Mayor’s Youth Council is seeking young musicians to perform during this year’s concerts.
The program began last year and was quite successful, with the young people performing before the regular concert or as a midway break.
Those interested should contact Jamie Gephart at jgephart@decaturin.org or by calling (260) 724-7171 for more information.
