The city of Bluffton broke ground on Lancaster Park on Friday morning. Members from the Parks Department, park board, city government and more were present for the ground breaking. Coblentz Construction of Geneva will be one of the contractors for the project.
Construction is expected to start in the next two weeks and will finish by December.
The completed park will include a half-mile walking path, a dual-use football/soccer field, a 9-hole dual-use foot golf/disc golf course, two sand volleyball courts, a lighted basketball court with six goals, a small playground, a Gaga ball court, a giant human foosball court, and two sets of cornhole boards.
The park will also contain a pavilion, solar-powered charging station, bike repair station and a fire pit.
The land for the park, located across from the Lancaster Central Elementary School in Bluffton, was donated by Northern Wells Community Schools. The project also received multiple grants, including a $608,270 grant from the Indiana Land Water Conservation Fund.
Coblentz Construction of Geneva, Frauhiger Excavating of Bluffton and Brooks Construction Fort Wayne will team up to construct the park.
