He was born on November 3, 1939, in Berne, Indiana to the late Rawley and Florine (Wittwer) Jones.

He was a 1957 graduate of Berne French High School. Following his graduation, he worked at Moser Motors as a mechanic. Shortly thereafter, he began a partnership with his brother, RD, in the operation of Jones Brothers. After a period of years, he became the sole owner of the business and renamed it Tom Jones Construction and Excavating…a career that lasted over 50 years, and would have continued if able.
He loved to collect a mix of antique and newer excavating toys. Tom enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He spent many hours at his shop tinkering on old equipment and reselling it. His idea of a vacation was “working” at the lake cottage on Oliver Lake.
