William “Mort” James, 99 of Van Buren, Indiana, joined our Lord in Heaven on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, peacefully surrounded by family in Delight, Arkansas. He was born to Elmer and Mae James in Marion, Indiana, on September 24, 1923.
Mort was a member of the Central Christian Church in Van Buren, Indiana. He volunteered many times over the years, working with the Popcorn Festival Committee selling popcorn tickets and helping anywhere he was needed. He was a very caring person with a big heart and loving soul. Mort was known to help those who could not easily leave their homes by getting them groceries, running errands, and even chauffeuring them to do their banking. He worked at RCA in Marion, Indiana for 38 years and retired at the age of 68.
Mort was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mae James, his wife of 61 years, Irene James, son, Gene James, brother, Lewis James, son-in-law, Larry Abney, and twin great-great granddaughters.
Loving survivors include his daughter, Debbie Abney of Delight, AR, grandchildren, Kathy Bollen, Twana (Brian) Thomason, Larry “Peanut” (Angie) Abney all of Delight, AR, and Billy (Angela) Abney of Liberty, TX, 6 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and several friends.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember at Van Buren Central Christian Church located at 201 S 1st St. Van Buren, IN 46991, on Monday, June 5, 2023, beginning at 12pm. Services will be officiated by Pastor Brad Hensley and inurnment will follow at Van Buren Cemetery.
