Bouncing back from a rough Huntington North loss on Tuesday, the Bellmont girls stole a match from an extremely talented Leo team Thursday night. Two of the five varsity courts finished quickly when Leo’s loaded doubles teams put the Lions up 2-0 in the varsity score with 6-1, 6-0 wins at both 1 and 2 doubles.Â
The Lions’ lineup had a different look from last year, with the top singles player, who beat Olivia Selking twice last year, shifting to doubles this season. She and her partner claimed the No. 2 doubles spot at the beginning of the season.
Selking continued her conference dominance with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win on senior night and No. 3 singles Leila Jin also won quickly 6-3, 6-1 to even the team match at 2-2 with eyes again turning to the No. 2 singles court.Â
After dropping the first set early, Emy Faurote won the next two sets handly 6-3 and 6-2, capping her senior night and giving the Braves their 3-2 team win.
This is the second time in a week that Faurote has won a three-set match that decided the team’s fate.
JV dropped a close one against the Lions, losing 6-4 as a team.
The Braves have four matches next week as they prepare for sectional play the following week.
