Heavy trash collection week will begin in Decatur on Monday, April 10, and continue through April 14.
This will be the first of two such collections by the city this year, with the other to come in the fall.
“This will be a good opportunity to clean up around your home,” city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert said in making the announcement.
The larger items will be taken on the same schedule as the weekly trash collections. However, Gilbert noted that the pickups could run behind schedule if there is a large amount for city workers to haul away. “So please be patient with us; we will get there,” he said.
Items that will not be picked up are home improvement materials, carpeting, appliances with Freon, and electronics.
Gilbert asked that items be bagged, if possible. “It just makes things more efficient and easier,” he explained, adding: “Please be kind to the workers.”
